Background of the Study
Revenue management is a key aspect of the financial stability and sustainability of private hospitals. In Kano State, private hospitals are increasingly adopting automated billing systems to streamline their revenue processes, reduce errors, and ensure faster, more accurate transactions. Automated billing systems are designed to process patient charges, insurance claims, and payment collections more efficiently than manual methods (Adebisi & Idris, 2023). These systems integrate various components of hospital billing, including patient registration, treatment codes, insurance claims, and payment tracking, ensuring a seamless flow of financial transactions.
Private hospitals in Kano State, such as the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital and other private healthcare providers, have recognized the need for more efficient revenue management systems to address challenges such as billing errors, delayed payments, and inadequate revenue collection (Akanbi, 2024). Automated billing systems offer a solution by reducing human error, improving the accuracy of invoices, and enabling real-time updates on financial transactions (Ogunbiyi & Abubakar, 2025).
Despite the growing adoption of automated billing systems, the full impact of these technologies on hospital revenue management in Kano State remains under-explored. This study will analyze the effects of automated billing systems on the efficiency and accuracy of hospital revenue management, as well as their potential to increase hospital profitability and sustainability.
Statement of the Problem
Private hospitals in Kano State often face significant revenue management challenges, such as billing inefficiencies, errors in claim submissions, and delayed payments. These issues affect the financial health of the hospitals and hinder their ability to provide quality care. While automated billing systems have been introduced as a solution, the extent of their impact on improving revenue management is not well understood. This study seeks to examine how the implementation of automated billing systems influences hospital revenue collection, billing accuracy, and overall financial performance in private hospitals in Kano State.
Objectives of the Study
To assess the impact of automated billing systems on revenue collection efficiency in private hospitals in Kano State.
To examine the accuracy of billing processes before and after the implementation of automated systems in private hospitals in Kano State.
To analyze the effect of automated billing systems on the financial sustainability of private hospitals in Kano State.
